EDIT’s fellowships for women scientists

EDIT will provide a limited number of short-term fellowships each year for outstanding women working in taxonomy or related fields. The main objective is to ensure that women in their early career are actively promoted in their research work. Download the application form here.

The deadline for application for the current round is the 26 March 2010.

Type of fellowship

The fellowships are offered for training and/or research in an EDIT partner institution outside the applicant’s country. Priority is given to training, but research is also eligible if it is related to EDIT activities. Training can cover attendance to classroom courses, hands-on laboratory training or field training. Research includes lab work, field work, work on collections, work to finalise a scientific paper or a taxonomic revision. Costs that can be covered are travel, subsistence and training/research costs. The typical duration of the fellowship will be 10 days to one month. Fellowships for longer periods (up to 3 months) will be considered if there is sufficient justification. It is possible to split the stay into several periods.

Current budget

EDIT will support short-term fellowships, with max. 2,000 EUR per fellowship. The total number of fellowships offered will depend on the budget available for the programme.

Eligibility

Any woman scientist from one of EDIT’s participating institutions may be eligible for the fellowship. Preference will be given to younger researchers, at the start or in the middle of their professional career (postgraduate students, PhD students, post-docs, staff working on projects). Women researchers on permanent position are potentially eligible, but they will be given lowest priority, since it is expected that they are already well installed in their career. Successful applicants will be expected to submit a short report at the conclusion of their stay.

Application procedure

Call for applications will be launched periodically by the GAP LG Chairperson, through the Network Office.

Selection and notification

Applications will be reviewed by the fellowships selection committee.

  1. Applicants will be notified upon reception of their application by e-mail.
  2. Successful applicants will be notified after the evaluation of their proposal (maximum one month after the deadline for applications).
  3. Successful applicants must notify the committee of their acceptance or refusal within 15 days of their notification.
  4. Successful applications will be posted on the EDIT website.

The successful applicant is expected to use the fellowship within 6 months. If that should not be the case, the committee must be notified.
